The Marriott was Marvelous

On Friday, December 14/07, Arlene and took to the roads and set off for a fun-filled weekend at Niagara Falls. For all you wise-crackers out there, yes the water is still flowing and yes, the water is still going down, not up. With that said, let me tell you all about our fabulous weekeend. After entrusting our car and luggage to the valet parking dudes we went to our room. What a spectacular suite! Jacuzzi tub for two, king size bed with lots of comfy pillows, a fireplace, television, and a separate room enclosed with french doors with a large window overlooking the Falls. The window actually opened about 3-4" so you could sit on the sofa and hear the Falls as well. I almost felt guilty about such rich extraganze but it quickly went away.

What service as well! We hadn't been in the room for more than 5 minutes when the bellhop showed up with our bags and brought them in for us. I just remembered.......I forgot to tip the guy. Oh well, we are Dutch afterall. Arlene then realized her cellphone was still on the front seat. She called down and within 5 minutes, there it was.

We then had a dinner neither one of us will ever forget. It was a 5 course meal with soup, salad, a small piece of strongly flavoured lemon sherbet to cleanse the pallet (oh brother), then the main course followed by dessert. I had the prime rib and Arlene had the stuffed chicken. This was all at the TerraPin Grille, in the hotel, overlooking the Falls. We then retired to our room and watched the lights on the Falls.

The following morning we had breakfast at the hotel restaurant then did some sightseeing:

First, a wet and chilly walk down at the Falls.

Then a trip to the indoor Bird and Reptile Sanctuary:

This place was very interesting. You walked into a large 3 storey, all open concept room with palm trees and ponds and a waterfall and there were birds of different shapes, sizes and colors just flying around free.

That afternoon we went to my sister Joyce's in WellandPort for Rintjema family Christmas (sorry no photos). It was a fun time of games, fellowship, and Pizza Hut pizza for supper. That evening, after getting back to the hotel, I went to the pool and then Arlene and I went outside with my camera to get some night shots of the area. That'll be a diffrent blog. We then went to the room and caught the third period of Toronto vs. Montreal. The next day we woke up to a big surprise:

The storm had hit! We had breakfast then packed up, called for the car, then left the hotel at 11:15 AM. Shortly after 5:00 PM we got home. We drove non-stop on highways that were plugged with snow and ice.

Despite this, we had a great time and recommend this all the married couples out there to try. You won't be disappointed.
