On Saturday, August 4 Ed and Marlene, Al, and Rob and Arlene set out on a 9 hour road trip to Cache Lake. It was bumper to bumper from Toronto to Barrie but after that it opened up and it was a spectacular drive through our north country through the French River and Magnettawan River areas. With soar butts and tired brains we arrived at Cache Lake. Our trip was rewarded with all that the Near North has to offer. A spristine lake, the call of the loons every night, bright stars all the way down to horizon and the thought of entire week away in our beautiful province.
On Tuesday we took a road trip to Sudbury. While there we visited the Science North Centre. After getting our heads filled with knowledge we went to Dynamic Earth. It is on the same site as the Sudbury Big Nickel. It is a tour of mine 80 feet underground. With hardhats and our expectations running high we set foot in an elevator that took us below the surface to view how mining how evolved over the past century. There was even an old retired miner from the 50s (with a Dutch accent) to explain how mining worked in times past.
We also took a road trip on Friday to Dushemay Falls near North Bay. At the trail head we seen a small waterfall and were somewhat disappointed. But upon further exploration along the trail we discovered it is actually a series of waterfalls spanning a 2 mile trek up the mountain and dropping about 100 feet. Along the trail once you thought it was done there was another beautiful cascade to take in. That is where the picture was taken. We didn't take the staircase but took the path less travelled. This is a must see if you are in the area!
The rest of the week was spent sitting around soaking up the sun and enjoying a beverage or two (or 3 or more), swimming, snorkelling, playing cards, cruising around in the aluminum boat, playing Peggle on Ed's laptop or just relaxing. We even got to see (and HEAR) the road construction crew on HWY 575 use dynamite to blast away rock on the side of the road. Even though we were a long ways away you could feel the power of the blast and see the impending dust cloud.
What a great week! We ate like royalty with bacon and eggs or sausages or pancakes or ham or whatever for breakfast after sleeping in till 10:00 or later. Then we snacked all afternoon and then had a great meal meal prepared on the BBQ by myself with help from Arlene and Marlene in the kitchen.
We had Ed fooled one morning when him and Marlene were the last ones up. Al and I changed all the clocks to 11:30. It was actually about 9:45. Ed thought his new expensive watch was running way late. Marlene was not fooled for one minute because of the look on Al's face. I guess you got to get up pretty early to fool Marlene.
Why is summer so short? The week flew by as usual. Can't wait for next year!

Sounds like an awesome week. Nice pitures!
Sounds like a great time. I'll try to post about ours in the next few days. Maybe even load a few pictures on our good ole' dial-up connection.
